Martin D.

Black Boy Joy Award Nominee

Martin has always been the kind of kid that has shown concern and care for others. He asks “how is your day” and then literally waits for an answer because he genuinely wants to know. He shows leadership at home, school, and church. And even tho he has not been able to be in person with his teachers for school, they still speak very highly of him because of the behavior and hard work he continues to display. His classmates adore him. His younger sister often treats him like he’s her hero. But more than anything, Martin loves being an uncle! He is a huge help to his mom and Martin has a smile that definitely brightens up any room that he enters. His smile is so big that his football coach nicknamed him Big Cheese, he’s always smiling and trying to be the best at everything! Martin does display what Black Boy Joy is!

Quincy Thomas

Black Boy Joy Award Nominee

Quincy deserves this award because as soon as he joined our church he hit the ground running. Many people join our family and just wait for ministries to ask for their attendance but not Quincy. He embodies this title because even in a pandemic he encourages people not to give up and has been volunteering his time to help others. Quincy has helped with food giveaways with the church and other organizations throughout the Chicagoland area. Also, Quincy has created his own foundation to support senior citizens in Chicago.

Many people have lost their touch since this pandemic and he never lost his. He continues to work in social services where he helps youth every day in South Side neighborhoods to further their education, gain employment opportunities, and assists youth without homes get into housing programs. He is the epitome of Black Boy Joy!

Black Boy Joy Award Nominee

Quincy deserves this award because as soon as he joined our church he hit the grown running. Many people join our family and just wait for ministries to ask for their attendance but not Quincy. He not only became my church brother but my mentor and I’m older than him. He embodies this title because I’m even in a pandemic he encourages people not do give up and has been volunteering his time to help not just with food giveaways but also has created his own foundation to support senior citizens in Chicago. Many people have lost there touch since this pandemic and he never lost it. He continues to work in social services where he help youth everyday in the south side communities to go back and complete school, employment opportunities and also help homeless you get into housing programs. Quincy should receive this reward because in a pandemic he still takes the time out to do whatever our city needs and our church family. He is the reason I know that no matter how hard life gets there is always something to change to make our communities better.

DeAndre Henley

Black Boy Joy Award Nominee

DeAndre is a faithful member of the Fellowship family. He works with our pastor as well as with our youth ministry. He makes sure he brings children to learn about God and exposes them to different things. There’s not a time where Dec. DeAndre has been asked to help with certain things/activities and he’s not shown up. He is well-deserving of this award because he’s a hard worker, faithful to his church, and a true man of God!
